I don't know particulars of a situation, but when you pay your apportionments, you are also paying other clergy's salaries who are far worse off (equitable compensation).
It seems to be a question of whether your commitments to the Connection trump betterment to the local church.
This creates an even deeper question, is a local UM church better if they are not paying 100% of their apportionments? Or is that a false sense of success?
