Here is a fellow United Methodist Clergy's benediction at the Presidential Inauguration. I enjoyed his benediction more than Warren's invocation. I love the ending, brilliant!!!
That benediction was so unbelievably racist towards white people. Rick Warren thanked God that our country has elected an African American to the presidency, while Dr. Lowery separated blacks and whites once again. On the day of the Inauguration of a BLACK president, he prayed that one day blacks will not be asked to step back. And do only whites need to embrace what's right? I'm pretty sure everyone is equal in sin and should embrace what's right. Who's racist now? Can we PLEASE try equality and not self-pity, self-righteousness and reverse discrimination?
Anonymous...I do not see your point. There have been many times in 'white people's' history that we have NOT done what is right. I thought the prayer was appropriate and we should be reminded (especially by civil rights leaders) that our work as white, black, brown, yellow, red and all the ones in between) is not over. We must continue to strive to see all people through God's eyes.
I think the rhetoric was pathetic in relation to the event. He is a racist...the "Whites" have been doing what is right for a long time. It is us the "black" that are the majority of the problem. We have to get passed this crap if we expect anyone else to. Quit holding on...no more excuses. The "whites" elected a black man.
I want the "blacks" to embrace what is right and stop putting the divide between races. How often have you been called a deroggatory name that is meant as a term for a white person? How many times have you called a black person a derrogatory name for black? I think in the majority of cases it is more often a case of reversed discrimination. Most "whites" don't care what your race is but, more often then not it is the other races that have issues with people from another nationality. We all have our issues but, making it okay for one group to espouse them against another group without recourse for the assulted group breeds anger and resentment. Why can't we all just get along?
Leonessa, thank you for your remarks. I have to admit I assumed you were white, but learning you are black woman sparks even more interest in what you are saying. Would you mind if I think about your comments and write a post about them. I would love to continue this conversation.
Jim, yes that is fine. I am raising a son and I refuse to let him think of himself or our family as victims. In all of history, including the white persons history, there has been slavery of one type or another. It is not only black people that have suffered. It isn't only a black persons history that has injustice in it...it is unfortunately a human trait not a white persons trait alone.
