Sad news reported on Neatorama. Reading Rainbow is going to be canceled. It wasn't till I started watching kids shows on PBS again (by the way World Word is awesome!) that I realized Reading Rainbow was still on. Here is what the post said...

After 26 years of teaching children (literally my entire life), Reading Rainbow is being cancelled. It’s not for a lack of interest, but a lack of funding for the show. NPR says the show also was victim of a “shift in the philosophy of educational television programming,” that started under Bush.

I don’t know how many of you grew up in the 80’s, but Reading Rainbow will be sorely missed by those of us who did have the show to thank for our early interest in reading.

Sad day indeed.

Oh, that makes me sad. I remember Reading Rainbow very fondly. My daughter is only 2, so she only watches Sesame Street. It's too bad that it won't be around when she's a little older.

This is such a shame! I remember watching this show with my kids and loving the questions that were sparked by the show. This will definitely be a loss to little ones now.
